W7: Roles of Individuals for Sustainable Development
Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog ๐
Actually, for this week, we were learning about the roles of institutions for sustainable development, which emphasized SDG number 16 and 17. However, I would like to write about the individual role for sustainable development for my reflection blog since the institutions' roles are beyond my control and ability. So in this post, I will write and reflect on what I and other individuals can do to sustain the resources and contribute to sustainable development.
Individual Role for Sustainable Development
The individual role may seem insignificant, but in fact, the individual role is very important and contributes significantly to sustainable development. Our commitment and awareness are very matter and needed in achieving sustainable development goals. Thus, I have discovered some ways in which I can apply and practice at my current state for sustainability.
1) Applying the '3R' concept, which is Reuse, Reduce and Recycle:
- Reduce: Try to reduce everything we can especially the consumption of electricity and water so that no wastage occurs. Electricity and water are the most two vital resources that we must sustain in order to live well because everything is now in need of it. In terms of food, make sure to not overtake the food in every meal so that no food will be wasted. Thus, the wastage of food can be reduced, as well as other resources, which is a very good effort for sustainability.
- Reuse: There are many things that can be reused either for the same function or other functions, but most of the reused things were done for other functions. For example, the plastic bottle can be reused as a flower pot/vase, pencil/pen case, money box, watering can, bottle scoop, and the most simpler one is food or any ingredient container. Therefore, not only we can reduce the waste of resources, but we can also save money from buying new items.
- Recycle: Another way if we don't want to reuse things, we can recycle the items by sending those used items to the recycle place or just put them into the recycle bins. However, make sure to distinguish them into their category, which is plastic, glass, metal and paper to ease the recycling process. Recycling contributes most to the economy and environment, where it creates jobs for people who collect recyclable things and reduce pollution to the environment.

2) Educate myself and the people around me
- Education is very important nowadays. Education not only the syllabus we learnt at school but also general and common knowledge related to survival and sustainability is also crucial in order to live a better life and make a better world. Thus, I will try to learn more about this sustainability by reading the information from articles, journals and websites on the internet. Besides, I will also make sure to educate and spread awareness to the people around me, especially my beloved family and friends as well so that we can together practice good roles for the sake of sustainable development.

Start with the man in the mirror. Educate ourselves first then we can educate other people so that we can change this world to a better place in future. Very true and nice writing!
ReplyDeleteLove your second point! I should educate myself first before sharing it to other people. Thank you for the lovely insight, Aisyah <3
ReplyDeleteYes! we have to start it from ourselves first ๐
