W12: Desa Sejahtera Part 1

Urgent Issues in Desa Sejahtera


Assalamualaikum W.B.T.,

For week 12, there was a call from Tan Sri Rector of IIUM for us to come up with proposals of possible solutions for the unsustainable issues found at Desa Sejahtera residences. After watching the video discussion with Rector about Desa Sejahtera, I found that there are bad health conditions, financial, and academic problems are among the issues that occurred. Not to mention, their house and living conditions are also very poor. To summarize, there are some requests of the Desa Sejahtera residents and hope for IIUM:

1) Gotong Royong with IIUM Community
2) Tuition/ Free Quran Recitation Class
3) Awareness program on Education, Hygiene and Health

As for the financial issue, we found that some adults don’t have income at all, so they don’t have enough money to have basic necessities. Besides, the residents of Desa Sejahtera are lack skills and basic knowledge. Thus, after we have some discussion among group members, our group decided to come up with a proposal to establish a monthly program on how to gain income. In this program, we will teach them various skills to produce products that can be sold such as knitting, crafting, and baking to help them gain some income to solve their financial problems, and we will invite skilled people to help us in teaching them those various useful skills and teach them basic business skills, such as selling, trading, and marketing. In terms of marketing, we will help them spread the advertisements and take pictures & videos of the products. Basically, the objectives of our project are:
  • To help them with their financial issue.
  • To help them gain new knowledge in gaining income.
  • To help them stand on their own two feet and survive.
  • To increase the quality of their life.

I think this is such a good initiative to help solve the issues in Desa Sejahtera and to sustain their lives. Since we have not yet presented this proposal in the class, we don't know whether our suggestion project is appropriate or not. So, I will explain further about this project as soon as we get comments and feedback from our lecturer. Stay tuned!

W11: Sustainable Development Project Progress
