W14: Presentation UNGS1201

Finally, our UNGS1201 class has come to an end. For this last week, which is week 14, we are having the last oral presentation for our sustainable development project. In the presentation, we are required to state what is the topic of our project, and explain why we choose the topic and how would us implement the project from now until our graduation.

1) What is your topic?

Maintaining physical and mental wellbeing of students from Kulliyah of Education during the covid-19 pandemic. It is related to SDG number 3, "Good health and Well-being".

2) Why the topic?

Due to the pandemic Covid-19, majority of IIUM students are currently in an unstable condition physically and mentally because most of the time we spent sitting in front of the laptop to attend online class and complete a lot of assignments. Most of them are having a hard time and frequently encounter stress throughout their online learning, including ourselves. Since all of our group members are from the same kuliyyah and the same course, we decided to implement the project on maintaining the physical and mental well-being specifically for students from our own kuliyyah, which is Kuliyyah of Education (KOED) so that the project is easy for us to implement.

3) How would you implement the project from now until your graduation?

For now, we can plan first how we want to do it and who do we want to invite and collaborate with from NGO organizations or media social influencers. Apart from that, we can also spread awareness by making posters or infographics about health and spread them through media social. We can also collect a survey to get feedback from students on how they like to maintain their physical and mental health.

In addition, every year Counseling Department will conduct Counseling Month, since we all are Counseling and Guidance (GUIDE) students under KOED, maybe we can collab with CCSI to conduct mental health program to give awareness to students. For physical activity, the best that we can do is we conduct events like marathon running by themselves at their place. Not only that, but we also can implement some talk programs and invite experts to give knowledge related to health. Besides, we can create an Instagram account or any suitable social media account to further market and show others what we’re doing and also use that platform to promote our programs and workshops. For example, 'kau.ok.tak' on Instagram is a youth-led initiative to further empower counseling for secondary school students). Even the effectiveness is not high but it is better than we do nothing, prevention is better than cure. Awareness is the first step before the practical, so the best that we can do during this pandemic is by giving awareness first. When the situation is okay, we can do the practical part.

When the MCO is ended and we can go back to the campus, we will implement some monthly programs related to health and well-being, mainly Zumba & art therapy. For this, we will try to invite expertise from outsiders if possible. If it is not possible, we will just conduct it by ourselves, or invite IIUM staff or students from other kuliyyah, who are experts in that field. In implementing these programs, we will strictly adhere to the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 virus. In between our studies, we can work with CCSC too to implement the project, and in terms of mental health. As counseling students, we can implement art therapy for people who prefer to express themselves through art, or we can do other kinds of therapy. Not just therapy, but we can do talks too and other kinds of activities, and we can also collaborate with students from other universities too.

Wrapping Up

So, that is all from me. I hope the spread of the Covid-19 virus will decrease and we can implement this project face-to-face. Since this is the last post, I want to thank everyone who read and support my post by commenting and giving opinions. I am also want to apologize for my weaknesses and wrong words that might hurt anyone. Last but not least, I pray that all of us can survive and maintain our physical and mental health well-being during this challenging situation. Stay safe everyone! πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™
