W14: Presentation UNGS1201

Finally, our UNGS1201 class has come to an end. For this last week, which is week 14, we are having the last oral presentation for our sustainable development project. In the presentation, we are required to state what is the topic of our project, and explain why we choose the topic and how would us implement the project from now until our graduation.  1) What is your topic?  Maintaining physical and mental wellbeing of students from Kulliyah of Education during the covid-19 pandemic. It is related to SDG number 3, "Good health and Well-being". 2) Why the topic?  Due to the pandemic Covid-19,  majority of IIUM students are currently in an unstable condition physically and mentally because most of the time we spent sitting in front of the laptop to attend online class and complete a lot of assignments.  Most of them are having a hard time and frequently encounter stress throughout their online learning, including ourselves. Since all of our group members are from...

W13: Desa Sejahtera Part 2

Image
Assalamualaikum W.B.T., and hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog :)  As promised, I will continue to elaborate more about our proposal for Desa Sejahtera's well-being as we have presented the proposal in the class. Now, I will explain the challenges and possible solutions, significance, methodology, and implications of our project.  Challenge and Possible Solution So basically, our project has some unavoidable challenges, especially in this pandemic Covid-19 situation. First of all, this project can't be done face-to-face because we are currently in Movement Control Order (MCO), and we should not do any mass gathering to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Secondly, we may be facing the challenge to find skilled people who can teach them. Thirdly, this project requires some materials to be used, thus,  we will need a lot of money to buy the materials. Lastly, we also face the challenge of inadequate time to execute the project since we are students, who need to stud...

W12: Desa Sejahtera Part 1

Urgent Issues in Desa Sejahtera Assalamualaikum W.B.T., For week 12, there was a call from Tan Sri Rector of IIUM for us to come up with proposals of possible solutions for the unsustainable issues found at Desa Sejahtera residences. After watching the video discussion with Rector about Desa Sejahtera, I found that there are bad health conditions, financial, and academic problems are among the issues that occurred. Not to mention, their house and living conditions are also very poor. To summarize, there are some requests of the Desa Sejahtera residents and hope for IIUM: 1) Gotong Royong with IIUM Community 2) Tuition/ Free Quran Recitation Class 3) Awareness program on Education, Hygiene and Health As for the financial issue, we found that some adults don’t have income at all, so they don’t have enough money to have basic necessities. Besides, the residents of Desa Sejahtera are lack skills and basic knowledge. Thus, after we have some discussion among group members, our group decided...

W10: Transdisciplinary Approach for Sustainable Development

Image
Assalamualaikum W.B.T.,  For this post, I am going to share some information and reflection about Multidisciplinary, Interdisciplinary, and Transdisciplinary. These terms are familiar terms that related to the topic "Transdisciplinary Approach for Sustainable Development", which means more than one branch of knowledge used to provide the solution for a problem. As we know, in order to solve a problem, we cannot view it from one perspective only, instead, we must see from multiple perspectives for a good and balanced solution, especially in sustainability. Thus, I will explain each term and provide an example from my point of view to make it clearer.  1) Multidisciplinary Multidisciplinary is multiple disciplines of knowledge that come together and provide the solution from their own perspectives, meaning that they are working at the same time but with their own ways and views. For example, in order to reduce the spread of the covid-19 virus, each field of knowledge and discip...

W9: Challenges to Sustainable Development

Image
Drivers of Unsustainable Development This time, I would like to write about drivers of unsustainable development, which is part of the challenges to sustainable development. There are three drivers of unsustainable development: 1) Economic mal-development 2) Unethical social values 3) Environmental debt Unfortunately, these three drivers are very prevalent in our country. Thus, I want to emphasize one of the three drivers, which I think the most prevalent among our society especially during this pandemic, which is unethical social values. This is also related to the government system in our country. Unethical Social Values Lately, since the pandemic Covid-19 occurred, the situation of our country is very chaotic because of the rules and Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) that the government has implemented to reduce the risk of Covid-19 spread. However, the enforced SOP that should be followed by all Malaysians, and the fines imposed on all Malaysians who violate, do not appear to be ...

W8: Role of Students in Sustainable Development

Image
Greetings to all of you!  This week, we have learned about the roles of universities in Sustainable Development. Indeed, the university plays a big and important role in sustainability. However, the university will not be able to fulfil its role without the roles of students in sustainable development. So, what is the role of students in sustainable development? As one of the students of IIUM, I want to share and reflect on our role in seeking knowledge for the sake of sustainable development, or in other term is "learning for sustainability". In fact, this is not only for sustainability, but it is for every single thing that we learn in our life. Thus, we must understand and apply this concept of learning to ensure that the knowledge we learn is blessed by Allah and beneficial for other people. Learning for Sustainability 1) Knowledge (to know)   As a student, we should instil a sense of curiosity to know and learn about everything as motivation in learning. When we are dead...
